Shape Digital and TotalEnergies EP Brasil: Partnership for energy efficiency in the Lapa Field

Shape Digital

New Digital Strategies Aim to Reduce Emissions by 5% in Brazil’s Pre-Salt

Committed to revolutionizing energy efficiency and tackling greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, Shape Digital has formed a strategic alliance with TotalEnergies EP Brasil. The focus is on deploying the innovative digital platform, Shape Aura, designed to maximize energy optimization and minimize emissions.

In its initial phase, the solution’s first module, targeting the gas compression system, is expected to reduce the overall emissions of the FPSO Cidade de Caraguatatuba production unit by approximately 5%. This unit operates in the renowned Lapa field, located in the Santos Basin within Brazil's Pre-Salt region. It’s worth noting that the Lapa field is a joint operation, with TotalEnergies EP Brasil holding 45%, Repsol Sinopec Brasil 25%, and Shell Brasil the remaining 30%.

The Digital Revolution in Energy Efficiency

Jean-Baptiste Dupuy, who leads Operated Assets at TotalEnergies EP Brasil, emphasizes: “This digital solution will be a valuable addition to the design changes we are implementing, aiming to cut CO2 emissions from this field. This aligns perfectly with our global goal to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by more than 40% at our facilities by 2030.”

The Shape Aura platform is a marvel of modern technology, incorporating Shape’s “Virtual Engineer.” This approach combines the best of traditional engineering with Artificial Intelligence, optimizing and automating critical technical decisions for industrial operations and maintenance. This cutting-edge solution not only enables real-time data capture and analysis but also generates optimal recommendations, manages their implementation, and constantly monitors their impact on efficiency and emissions. What’s truly revolutionary is that it will be operated directly by the offshore O&M team. This facilitates quicker responses and continuous optimization, keeping all stakeholders informed.

Felipe Baldissera, VP of Energy at Shape Digital, has a clear vision of the future: “Shape has always sought to develop digital solutions that reduce costs, maximize efficiency, and ensure safety. With Shape Aura, we are channeling our expertise in software, AI, and industry to deliver sustainability-focused solutions. In an era where decarbonization is crucial, ‘CAPEX-Free’ digital tools, with low costs and quick implementation, are vital to accelerating this process, especially in the oil and gas sector.”
